SONOMA, CA

Sonoma, little sister in wine country to the much larger Napa Valley to the east, turned out to be one of the nicest and most welcoming spots on our entire trip. Our hotel charge included a free bottle of pretty good wine, and logs for the working fireplace in the room. We were only a block from the town square, site of most of the really good restaurants in the area, and scores of vineyards with tasting rooms peppered the map around the town. The surrounding countryside would remind one of areas in Provence or Tuscany. F saw olives growing on trees first time in her life. Giant eucalyptus trees add grandeur to the town square, and most houses in the village seem to have gardens full of fruit trees, herbs, and amazing flowering plants. We spent a nice few days eating, drinking, walking, and soaking up the sun. A great place!
