LAS VEGAS, NV
LAST STOP

After the Grand Canyon, neither of us could bear to stay in another "theme hotel". Fran had spotted The Carriage House hotel a block off the strip, and we discovered that for less than the price of a hotel room ($69) we could get a full-size one-bedroom apartment with full kitchen (dishwasher, all kitchenware, microwave, full-size stove and refrigerator, etc.), living room, bar, bedroom, bath, two TVs, laundry room, etc. It was a nice change, though we both kept expecting that "whoever lived there" might come home any time. We were there just long enough to do our laundry, repack for the return trip, and get prepared for the flight and car return. The view out the back window was very strange, as is all of this very strange town. The flight back to NY was uneventful. Having stayed just a couple days ahead of cold weather (both Lake Tahoe and the Grand Canyon had major snow storms just after we'd left them in relatively balmy weather), the Sierras and Rockies passing beneath our plane looked quite different all covered in white than they had looked just 37 days earlier. Now it was time for a big Thanksgiving feast, and a ferry and car trip back to our home in Maine.
