ZION NATIONAL PARK, UT

Almost every person who hears that we went to Zion National Park responds that it is their favorite of the western parks. We loved what we got to see of it--mostly the scenic loop drive up the valley. If there is such a thing as hallowed or sacred ground this must be it--the cliffs make a vast outdoor cathedral of sorts, and reminded me more of Chartres than of other mountain landscapes. The drive across the desert, north on Highway 15 from Las Vegas was a welcome change from the neon jungle.
